Mastery in Coaching
What habits and practices will enable you to continue toward mastery with your coaching? Are any of us really master coaches? No. We may have the labels or credentials that say we are, but in reality, mastery is something which we aspire to achieve. We have moments of masterful coaching, but we have not ‘arrived’ and don’t ever expect to reach a point where there is no room for improvement.
We learn from our clients with each interaction. We get caught in our own perspective or in wanting to give advice or solve the problem or look good. We learn from that and, in any present moment, we try to choose to become a better coach.
There are plenty of masters with us if we listen. Moments of mastery are more and less frequent, more and less profound at different times in our lives, but they are there. Look for mastery around you. Listen for wisdom. Learn by noticing masterful moments; collect them. Notice a masterful insight in yourself. Call attention to the mastery in your clients, elicit it and welcome it.
